You're likely to find our events team at most events around Jo'burg these days and it was at the Tarlton Fast Fest where they had the opportunity to whack a heap of cameras on a McLaren Spider which was set to race against a MX2 Stunt Plane down the quarter mile strip!

Through 2012 we visited a handful of events and expos which proved to be incredibly successful, some of which included The AMID Bike Show, The Getaway Show, the Dive Show, 94.7 MTB Expo and others. We are now looking for someone to manage and grow the events side of the business.
The role would include:
- Selecting the best events (three or four events per month),
- Planning the events from start to finish,
- Completing and submitting financial summaries,
- Managing sales processes and cash on hand,
- Managing the logistics around set up and break down,
- Training and managing sales staff
- Establishing and managing nationwide teams to run events elsewhere in SA,
The role would require most of the work to be done over weekends when the events take place. Work hours during the week will be flexible (hours to be agreed upon). You would be required to travel around Gauteng and surrounding regions and may need to spend weekends at event locations. Own transport required.
Requirements:
- Five years or more in events planning / management
- An independent & can-do attitude is a prerequisite
- An entrepreneurial mindset
A basic salary of R12,000 will be offered plus a profit sharing commission structure will be agreed upon for sales generated at events. Claimable travel costs regarding to the events will be covered.
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of this and run with it with the aim of growing sales and the Action Cameras brand. In return you would receive a share in this growth through the profit sharing commission structure.

Leaving your Xmas shopping till the last minute is never a good idea but this year is especially tricky because of how the weekend falls right before Xmas.
The last orders we'll be taking will be on Thursday the 20th of December which gives us time to deliver by courier on Friday the 21st. The couriers can deliver on Monday the 24th but due to a huge surplus of deliveries we would recommend getting your order in by the 20th.
PS, next day delivery is for main cities in SA, further outlying areas can take an extra day or two so please contact us if you would like to double check delivery times.

The long awaited GoPro App is now available for free download on the iStore! Get the iOS app now for iPhones and iPads, the Android App will be available soon too.
So, what's so awesome about this application from GoPro???
With the GoPro app on your phone you can log into the WiFi hotspot created by the GoPro camera and then do all kinds of awesome things to control it! As you open up the app it will bring up a live pre-view of what the camera is looking at, you can then simply start your video or take a bunch of photos and control this from your phone / tablet. Not only can you control all these important functions via the Go Pro App by you can also change all the settings remotely. Very cool!
So, if for example the camera with the wifi bacpac was mounted outside your vehicle or somewhere way out of reach then you can have absolute control over it through your phone.
The awesomeness of this app doesn't end there though. Now that you've taken a video you want to get instant reply right? Well, all you need to do it click on the GoPro app to download the videos and photos from the camera to your iDevice through the WiFi connection. It'll download two versions of each video and photo; one large size one for you to view in full quality, and another smaller version of that same file so you can quickly pop across to your facebook or twitter app and upload this smaller (easier and quicker to upload) file to your social networks for instant sharing online.

Editing long streams of video can almost take the fun out of using your helmet cam as you spend hours and hours trying to pin point the awesome shots out of your full day's adventure. Well, we've found an awesome solution to this problem! Our friends at Highlight Hunter have developed a software to alleviate this problem altogether.
The way it works is simple - as you're riding along, if something AWESOME happens then straight afterwards simply cover the camera lens for a second. Do this for all your highlights through the day. Later on when you download the video into the FREEHighlight Hunter software then it will automatically pick up all these "black outs" when you covered the lens. It will then cut 30 seconds before the black out BOOM - your video is edited! The best ideas in the world are the simplest!

Many of you would have heard about our friend Kim McCusker's recent accident in Jo'burg when a taxi ran her down and dragged her for several hundred meters before being forced to stop by her fiance.

A lot of people have been searching for a solution to the soft focus issue experienced when putting the GoPro HD camera underwater. The curvature of the GoPro lens bends the light underwater and results in a soft focus where nothing is really in focus. This solution has now been found; introducing the GoPro HD Underwater Corrective Lens which fits over your GoPro housing without having to make any adaptations to your housing.
Fitting the corrective lens onto the GoPro HD is kind of like putting swimming goggles on the camera, it removes the water to a few millimetres in front of the lens where there is a flat lens. This flat lens then removes the soft focus issue from having the curved lens underwater. Problem solved.

GoPro has rolled out awesome new accessories like the GoPro Battery BacPac and the GoPro 3D. The GoPro Battery BacPak is a long life battery which plugs into the back of any 1080p Go Pro cam. This will give double the battery life and will be able to fit inside the waterproof housing too as it comes with the BacPac housing expansion. It fits on like a back pack - hence the name!
The GoPro 3D Hero System is an awesome new way to film with your GoPro, but in 3 D! You'll need two of the 1080p Go Pro helmet cams and the 3D Hero System. GoPro has finally announced their long-awaited LCD BacPak. The new GoPro LCD BacPak is a screen which can be added onto any 1080p GoPro HD camera. This will give you the benefit of being able to pre-view your shots as well as watch the videos back while you're still out and about. The upgraded f/w will improve on the original in several ways:

The Action Cameras Team took to the roads this year to compete in Jo'burg's toughest race, the 94.7 Cycle Challenge... and, of course, we came armed with heaps of on-board and helmet cameras... Check out this video which we created using the timelapse (continuous photo) mode on the X170 helmet cam.
As you can see, the camera didn't quite make it to the finishing line as the 8Gb card maxed out on Heartbreak Hill, but luckily our riders legs held out a few k's more and carried our team across the finish line at 5hrs01mins. Well done boys!

Cape Town big-wave surfer Frank Solomon recently had this close call with an estimated three-metre shark while sailing through the Bassas da India. Solomon and fellow Cape Town surfer, James Taylor, are currently on a journey across the Indian Ocean. The crew were anchored and having lunch on deck when they spotted a couple of the sharks swimming around.
“I thought it would be a good idea to take my GoPro (camera) and swim with them” wrote Solomon on his expedition blog. “What I didn’t know was that they were Zambezi sharks.”...

This week Mark le Roux, SA's own world-class camera man, wrote about his favourite cameras on the Men's Health website. Not surpisingly a few action cams were included in his list. The HD170 and GoPro HD were mentioned as his best cameras for getting creative shots at top quality HD levels.
About the HD170, Mark says; "I have this on order and I have only heard great things about it. It records in full 1080p resolution HD at 30 frames per second. That’s good enough for SuperSport. It has a playback screen for lining up shots – so often with setting up a helmet cam is that half of the footage is unusable because the camera moved or was bumped. This screen will help a lot with that. The 32 MB internal memory is small but it can accommodate SDHC cards up to 32 GB. It’s also water resistant till 0.5m, which will be a relief for our insurance company."
For the GoPro HD, Mark's comments were; "This is what we strap to the bottom of the chopper and let it roll. So when you see those low-flying shots, it’s not me leaning out of the window (although I do a lot of that too) it’s this brilliant little camera. It shoots in HD and the footage is super smooth. It’s light enough so sometimes we can persuade a pro to strap it to his helmet. Plus, it’s waterproof, but you have to make sure you clean the lens occasionally. Rob Cunnington of Cycles Africa rode with it, partnered with Michael Moll in the Sani2C and the results were amazing."

The Action Cameras Team had an amazing trip out to Bloem to support Bafana Bafana in their attempt to thrash the French and earn themselves a spot in the Group 16 matches. What an amazing game to be at, we saw our boys secure their biggest victory ever! It was however a bitter sweet victory as our attempts just weren't enough to see us go through.

In 2009 we saw over 500 South African make the trip over to the infamous road races on on the island with no speed limits - the IOM TT! With this years races already having started we are excited to be up there for our second year in a row. After the excitement of last years races, we've now got the TT fever!
With helmet cameras now becoming a must-have biker accessory we are expecting to see heaps more of them out on road this year, and not only on the racers but on everyone's bikes. Are you taking your Action Camera out skiing or snowboarding???
I quick tip from us; you should use Lithium-ion batteries as these aren’t affected by the low temperatures. If you use regular Alkaline batteries then you’ll notice that the battery life will only be a few minutes as soon as you expose it to the temperatures.
The plus side is that (while more expensive) the Lith-ion batteries do last about 2 to 3 times longer then the regular ones.
So to make sure that your batteries can last as long as you do get yourself some Lith-ion Batteries!

New Product: LANC Cameye II (7 May 2007)
The CamEye II makes it easy to start and stop recording to avoid unnecessary film shots. A short click on the red button toggles between recording and standby. The bright feedback indicator shows the camera status and even tells you when it's time to replace the tape or recharge the battery. The Cameye II is for the camcorder only and does not control filming of a helmet camera. For controlling filming with a camcorder please see Lanc v1.4 and Lanc v1.6.
New Product: Half lens filter launched for in car filming (9 May 2007)
This filter is perfect for rally drivers and track day in-car filming. The filter minimises the over exposure you can sometimes experience from light reflecting on the windscreen.
The filter has a coating along the middle of the glass which provides normal lighting inside the car and improves the quality of the picture through the windscreen. Simply replace the glass in your camera with this filter and set the horizon of the coating to the dashboard of your car.
New Product: ActionCamera 20Gb Hard Disk Recorder (1 June 2007)
The Action Camera 20Gb hard disk recorder is amongst the best portable media devices on the market. The unit boasts a higher video recording resolution (720x576 pixels) than the Archos recorder which records at 640x480 pixels. The unit has a 3.5" TFT LCD screen, touch sensitive button controls and a more shockproof hard disk recorder than the Archos Media Player.

We are delighted to welcome Kieran Monk to the team. With business increasing rapidly Kieran will be helping us with customer support and sales.
Kieran recently graduated from Cardiff University and spent last year travelling around Europe and North Africa before joining us. He is an avid surfer and will be spending most of his weekends this summer on the Devon coast trying to catch some surf.

We are continually improving the quality of our cameras to ensure we continue to lead the market. We recently had our cameras sent off for tests in high vibration environments and they passed with flying colours.
If you are buying cameras for high vibration environments such as motor sports you can be confident the cameras will perform. We regularly supply kit to Formula One teams and you don't get more demanding customers than them!

Check out our IP57 Lanc remote control which means its been tested at 1m ( 3 feet ) for 1 minute. It's the best Lanc on the market for watersports but its still not recommended for scuba diving!

Do you have a PV500 or PV800 MPEG4 recorder? Well now you can power your Action Camera direct from the unit which saves carrying an extra battery pack. This will reduce battery life on the unit but if you are doing a short run and want to have the least number of cables and hassle then this is a really useful device.

New Product: Wireless Transmitter and Receiver for our Action Cameras (1 August 2007)
You can now transform your bullet camera into a wireless cameras with our portable wireless A/V transmitter and receiver kit. The kit has a range of 300m with clear line of sight. The kit has a vibration alert when the battery is low and there is a single socket on the transmitter for A/V signal output and power supply which reduces the hassle factor.
We have tested a lot of wireless kits in the past and rejected them because the quality was not great. This is the best we've tested and it really lets you unleash the potential of your Action Camera.

New Products: Archos 504 double life batteries and external battery charger (7 August 2007)
We now have in stock Archos double life batteries which are proving very popular with our police customers. We also have battery chargers for the Archos 504 battery only so you can charge a spare battery while you are using your Archos. You no longer have to charge your battery while plugged into your player which is very convenient.
Product Update: Our Action Cameras work with 9v batteries (8 August 2007)
We have tested our Action Cameras and they can operate using a single 9v battery. This really saves on weight and hassle of carrying an 8AA battery pack. Our cameras have a wider voltage operating range than most competing cameras so can operate at 9v whereas a lot of competing cameras can't. That's another reason to choose an Action Camera!
New Product: ATC2K standard mount adaptor (13 August 2007)
Do you have an ATC2000 but are struggling to mount it on a roll bar or dash board? Well this handy little adaptor enables you to mount your ATC2000 to any standard roll bar or suction mount. This is perfect for track day filming as the standard mounts with the ATC2K are not designed for in car filming.
New Product: ELMO SUV-Cam (15 August 2007)
This is the simplest to use solid state MPEG4 recorder on the market. The SUV-Cam camera and recorder unit is the only system that records footage onto an SD card and where the recording unit powers the camera eliminating the need to carry a 12v battery pack to power the camera.
The recorder is as compact as a cellular phone and weighs only 130g with the battery loaded. The camera body itself is as small as a lipstick case which is waterproof to 40m. The recorder is equipped with a 2.2inch TFT high resolution display.
The system records at 704 x 480 pixels making it a higher resolution system than the Archos helmet camera package. With is SD card recording media it is ideal for high vibration environments.
In addition to the built-in mic, the recorder has an external microphone input, so you can record with the right set-up for your needs.
New Product: Sky Diving Package (20 August 2007)
Yes we are listening! We've had feedback from a lot sky divers who want a camera system which is high quality but most of all convenient to use and does away with as much cabling and weight as possible.
Our new package does the job. The system includes a small MPEG4 recorder which powers a built in small high quality camera (30mm x 12mm). It even has a camera switcher to save some battery life.
If you are sky diver you wont get a simpler, lighter system and affordable set-up than this.

New Product: Solid State camcorder Aiptek DV8800 (5 Sept 2007)
The Aiptek DV8800 is the new MPEG4 solid state recorder we are supporting. We've tested a lot of solid state recorders recently and this is the one that came out tops. It's a compact size, easy to use, robust and produces really excellent footage in conjunction with our Action Cameras. One thing that really impressed us was the way it responds to changes in light conditions.
In addition to working great with our cameras other features of the Aiptek include:
• Digital camera: will allow you to take still pictures up to a resolution of 8 Mega Pixels (3264 x 2448)
• MP3 player.
• Media station: You can record any kind of video input (TV, DVD and of course Bullet Camera) and display them back into the Built-In Screen.
We like the Aiptek so much we have included it in most of our helmet camera package deals.

Check out the latest entry into the world of helmet cameras by O'Neill. They have developed an integrated helmet camera and backpack system.
Designed mainly for skiers and snowboarders the backpack stores a solid state recording device and has a remote control integrated into the backpack so you can easily start and stop recording.
The portable media player/recorder that comes in the backpack stores footage on either the internal memory (512MB) or on the SD-Card (up to 2 GB).
The backpack is a boardcore backpack with all facilities for backcountry riding. For example your snowboard can be attached horizontally and vertically to the pack and there is place for an avalanche probe and a helmet pocket.
